Message: Any ideas for an early Sota Sapphire that has the glued on rubber mat? My tonearm, a 10" Helius Scorpio 4, has plenty of VTA adjustment. In fact, I'm currently bottomed-out with this arm and a Goldring 1042, so some increase in platter height would be welcomed. I usually run with a machined brass stabilizer of about 380grams.

Webmaster's reply: Most of our Sota Sapphire customers replace the stock mat with a full-size Way Excellent II-2mm Turntable Mat with excellent results. If your VTA is bottomed-out with a rubber mat, a thicker Way Excellent II-4mm mat would be appropriate to allow some VTA adjustment latitude. As an alternative, a Way Excellent II-2mm mat can be used on top of the stock mat with excellent results. Way Excellent II Turntable Mats are fully compatible with a 380-gram brass stabilizer.

Message: You seem to recommend a Way Excellent II 4mm for Denon Turntables. The DP-1000 has a raised portion of metal in the center of the platter with about a 5mm radius. The original equipment rubber mat has a corresponding cut-out to accommodate this raised area and thus remain flat when installed. Will the WE II 4mm be able to accommodate this raised area also?

Webmaster's reply: For the DP-1000, you'll want a 4.25" center hole (center hole option is chosen from the Shopping Cart drop-down menu). The raised hub area has a radius of just over 50mm, not 5mm.
