Message: I have a Luman pd 121 turntable with a felt mat. Is that all that it came with or does it require a rubber mat as well??? Regards David

Webmaster's reply: The Luxman PD 121 came originally with a simulated leather mat. Whether you now have the leather mat or a felt mat, a full-size Way Excellent II Turntable Mat would be an upgrade replacement to be used instead of the mat presently being used. You would use only one mat on the turntable platter.

Message: Which mat fits pioneer pl-71. seems like the stock mat measured 4.5mm.

Webmaster's reply: We recommend a full-size Way Excellent II-4mm Turntable Mat for the PL-71. VTA/tonearm height is easily adjustable on the PL-71 to accommodate a different mat thickness. (A Way Excellent II-4.5mm Mat can be used if you don't want to adjust VTA).

Message: My Dual 1249 has a rubber mat that is glued to the platter, do I have to rip it off (and ruin it) before putting on a Way Excellent? It has no VTA.

Webmaster's reply: It's up to you if you want to replace and upgrade from the stock mat. A Way Excellent II Turntable Mat is a significant sonic upgrade. Rubber mats gradually turn brittle and might eventually crack. Although it's usually best to replace the rubber mat, some people use a Way Excellent II-2mm Mat on top of the rubber mat with very good results.

With Dual automatic turntables like the 1219 model that has a "tracking angle mode selector," you can use a Way Excellent II-4.5mm Turntable Mat on top of the factory mat. A single record will then be at the correct VTA/tonearm height if you switch the turntable's "tracking angle mode selector" to the "multi" position instead of the "single" position. With this configuration, although the tracking angle is set for "multi," it will be appropriate for single lp

Message: Good morning,
What mat thickness do you recommend as a replacement for Technics SL D202 turntable?
I'm experiencing some sibilance in the highs with 180 grs records and Icannot adjust VTA.
Thanks in advance

Webmaster's reply: Try a Way Excellent II-4mm Turntable Mat or version that is 1/2mm to 1mm thinner than your present mat.

Message: I have a technics SL 150 mk2 that has a SME series III. I have heard about and noticed the raised lip on the platter. Would I use the 295mm or the 285mm sizes?

Webmaster's reply: A 285mm-diameter mat fits neatly within the outer raised lip, though either size can be used (the slightly raised lip will simply compress the soft foam of a full-size Way Excellent II Turntable Mat and have no effect on the black "donut" portion that contacts the record).
