The interface between monitor loudspeakers and stands is particularly problematic. These speakers typically do not have much mass and rigidity, yet generate tons of soundwave energy. Their mass is typically insufficient for effective coupling. Herbie's Soft Fat materials are the best solution. These materials are extremely sensitive, quick, and sonically neutral. They simultaneously block, absorb, and dissipate vibrations throughout the audio frequency spectrum, yet are structurally very strong to hold your loudspeakers firm and motionless..Though Black Monitor Stand material material is rather expensive, it provides the best loudspeaker/stand interface that money can buy.
..
.Black Monitor Stand Pad: This soft, compliant material provides superior isolation most optimally with a weightload of about 4 pounds per square inch or less. That's not really much, but spread over a broad area, the material can handle a lot of weight. For example, an eight-inch by ten-inch pad would be eighty square inches, for a total weight-handling capacity of 320 pounds (80 sq. in. x 4 lbs.)! With a single 5" x 8" pad, you would have enough for two 80-pound loudspeakers; just cut the pad into smaller pieces for each speaker. Or, for the ultimate decoupling/isolation, cover each monitor stand plate with a full-size piece or a piece to fit the whole speaker cabinet bottom (trim slightly undersize for neat appearance). 1/8" (3.2mm) thick.
..
.White Foam Monitor Stand Pad: For lightweight speakers, foam pads offer a good quality, lower priced option. Optimal weight load is 1/2 pound per square inch or less. A 6" x 8" pad will support and isolate a 24-pound speaker. 3/32" (2.4mm) thick.
..
.Because loudspeaker weight is often unevenly distributed, we recommend choosing a pad size that will accommodate your speaker weight plus 50%. For example, if your speaker weighs 20 pounds, choose a pad style and size that will accommodate a 30-pound load.
..
.To purchase your Monitor Stand Pad, just choose a width and the shopping cart will provide a scroll-down menu for lengths up to 18 inches. If you need a larger size, you can use a combination of smaller pads on your stand. Material can be trimmed with a hobby knife or scissors to achieve particular dimensions, smaller size, or multiple pieces. (Size tolerance: +/- 1/8").
